[fast5] Re: A New Problem?

Hi Susan-

Being a recovering Catholic I can say that I completely sympathize with your dilemma. It's a good question you've posed. From a nutritional standpoint I think a little bread and wine once a week isn't going to hurt a thing. From a spiritual perspective, I think the good you will get from communing with your fellow congregants and participating in the service will give you many more benefits than abstaining. Physically, the calm and peace you receive from prayer and meditation, being part of the transubstantiation, and communing with like-minded souls will help to lower your blood pressure, increase energy, decrease muscle tension, and improve immune function.

I've found that as time goes on and Fast-5 becomes an integral part of your lifestyle, you can make exceptions here and there. Fast-5 was developed as a method to allow you to lower you daily intake of food. The cumulative effect of eating less over your lifetime is the goal. So 13 calories once a week is not going to affect the overall goal.

My advice would be to take communion. Talk to your pastor/priest/reverend and see if he/she has any recommendations for you. I'm sure that they have ways to accommodate folks who are dedicated to their faith and their bodies. I know that my priest was absolutely thrilled to hear of a way to fast as part of daily life. Fasting has always been part of many religious traditions. So, I say go for it!
