Carol,
I have a friend who is diabetic and can eat pre-made pizza and pastas
without issue, but she is very careful with portion sizes and her insulin
dosing.
For pizza, I would look at all the ingredients in the pizza. Many pizza and
pasta sauces add sugar to reduce tomato acidity. Also, portion size plays a
big part. A large piece of pan pizza will have a different carb count than
a thin n crispy crust pizza.
For pasta, start weighing the pasta before cooking, weigh after and
calculate how much to serve. Most pastas have a 2 oz (dry) serving size,
which is quite generous.
With carb counting: Net carbs is usually the carb count minus the fiber.
Eating high fiber foods and counting net carbs, can work for some people but
not all.
good Luck,
Carrie

ok, my husband is diabetic and i am not getting this. he ate pizza and his
reading was over 300. i looked online about low carb pizza and found a low
carb baking mix. this one said it was 90 percent less carbs than like
bisquick but when i compared the difference the one was 16 the other 26.
that is not 90 percent.
can someone explain about net carbs. i just know to look at the sugar and
the carbs and i really do not understand what amount or what a net carb is.
feeling totally unaware but he is 100 percent italian and these pastas and
pizza really are killing his levels. cannot do them but would like to find a
healthier alternative. his health is number one importance. thanks so much.
