Keena-
That's a shame about the tonic-clonic. In general you want to see absence
seizures in kids because the outlook is brighter. You don't want to see
something that looks like an early manifestation of an adult condition.
Has she ever vomited from that stomach thing? When I first got this stuff I
was 12 and I had complex partial seizures (they still are), but I was
usually conscious through them. Although they were a sort of undescribable
hell. I remember being blind and deaf, having no control over my muscles,
and bashing my head against the floor; all I could think to say was "God
hates me" and I'd repeat that between bashing my head on the floor.
Meanwhile other "stuff" was "going on", intensely, but I can't really
describe it. And I'd usually be throwing up the whole time and covering
myself with a puddle of vomit on the floor. Now I usually don't remember
them; I've had to send emails to people asking if I had one, which in itself
should be a big hint. But still, even these days I sometimes come out of a
seizure finding myself paralyzed and aspirating in a puddle of vomit on the
floor and all over me.
If the nap is accompanied with the stomach ache (most people get the the
stomach problems afterward), or even if it isn't, that's actually a good
aura. I'm jealous. She's on the floor already. She probably doesn't need
that football helmet they stick on kids (they never stuck one on me).
Although every bicycle helmet I've bought so far has saved my life on one
occasion, judging from the injuries not on my head after falls from bikes
(but all over my face, shoulders, fingers, knees, elbows, etc). I wish I was
taking a nap and not riding a bike when these things happen.
Sometimes I get an aura that gives enough warning that I know to take a dive
and get on the floor myself. I make myself comfortable on the floor in front
of my desk; sometimes I bring a clipboard and pen down to work on in case I
have to wait. But if I do, I feel like an idiot lying on the floor there
(lying on the floor at work IS weird). I'm pretty good though; the wait is
never long.
But people at work really get disturbed when I come in having huge bruises
all over my head after falling from standing positions, or after bashing my
head on a piece of furniture on my way down. (I need a house full of Nerf
furniture, if they sell it.)
