Re: [epilepsy] just a question

Keena,

I'm guessing she's not either. Strobe light sensitivity is rarer than people
think. How old is she and what kind of seizure was it? (he asked, hoping
they were absence seizures not tonic ones that cause falls.) A low seizure
threshold can last a long time but a three hour delay is pretty impressive
for a precipitator like a strobe light.

I did a lot of reckless experiments with strobe lights and even though my
focus is somewhere very close to the occipital-temporal lobe boundary (auras
are visual in the corner of my eye) I never managed to ignite one myself.

Although mine clearly come in clusters separated by several weeks, like the
mysterious 11 year solar cycle. The clusters don't just involve seizures-
sometimes there aren't any- but there's this weird wave of inexplicable
depression that feels like emptiness and paralysis, and a tiredness that
makes it possible to sleep 12 hours a day with naps in between if I'm at
home. (If a seizure hits I have to sleep forever- other people complain
about that too.)

Friday evening, I told my wife I was going to have a seizure sometime
tonight or tomorrow. She said "yeah you look a little messed up in a certain
way". Of course, what does she know... I looked a little depressed to her,
she said. Then 4 AM that morning, the seizure hit (that left me in a fugue
where I wandered out to the backyard naked and was examining the electric
meter). I get some sort of half-believable premonition, that I usually
ignore as nothing, that "it's been a long time since the last one, guess
it's about time for the next". But this time I considered the timing and
decided to take it seriously enough to actually issue a prediction, which I
have never done before... and I NAILED it. Ha ha ha.
