Re: [epilepsy] Is decline common?

Does she go into fugues after seizures or is she totally conked out? I bet
if she goes into fugues she can't talk and/or understand other people
talking, but she doesn't get lost. I can talk to people long before I start
recognizing doorways and streets.

I lucked out with this thing being on the right, safely distant from the
superpowers on my left (superspelling and supergrammar). I have a feeling
though that you avoid offending people with something on the right, because
I think I do a lot of left-brainy calculation to avoid offending people and
sometimes I hear myself saying what I think are very offensive things. I
also have trouble with cursing when I want to emphasize something. My wife
says, you have a deficit somewhere, but you compensate somehow- in a way
that's really annoying! That makes surgery sound very scary.

He said, don't worry, all that stuff is deep in the mesencephalon near the
hippocampus and amygdala and we won't cut that crap out. But if we find it's
in the neocortex we're going to cut away.

I still have super-vision too (20/10 or 20/15 or something) but I have to
wonder if I'd be as good at reading letters on the chart's bottom row if
this were on the left. You'd think both hemispheres get a complete field of
vision but noooo, if you look at that optic circuit everything on the left
goes to the left and everything on the right goes to the right and then the
two sides of your brain yak to each other about what they're seeing through
the corpus callosum. What happens if you get a callosumotomy? Do you have to
talk out loud to yourself to avoid tripping over stuff? People have trouble
buttoning their shirts.

That's relevant though if you have surgery close to your occipital lobe
because they can blow a hole through your visual field if they remove the
wrong chunk of your neocortex and your other hemisphere won't be able to
help out. They said don't worry, your affected hemisphere will just paint it
in. Ick.
