[epilepsy] Re: Dilantin Causing Osteoporosis-Endocrinologist Next

I was on Dilantin from 1975 - 1988. My gums, its easily noticed by dentists, but haven't had teeth problems like so many others on it have. I have very strong bones! Have had a couple bicycle crashes over the years. Once shattering my left collar bone into 3 pieces because of a fall during a seizure. I was back on the tennis court in 7 weeks with the Dr. OK. But he TOLD me no serving for a few more weeks. Taking it extremely easy the first few weeks I was amazed to be on the court so quickly. No problems after that so I know my bones are strong even with the meds over the years. I've been on different meds. over the years, been staying on Keppra and Trileptal as long as I stay seizure free. Take care, keep a smile on your face!

Two weeks into coming off Dilantin, he started having one seizure after another, went to the hospital by ambulance, it took him about 3 days to fully wake up and another week to fully recover. He is back on Dialantin, Keppra and Lamictal and relativey seizure free. His neuro said we could try again to get him off Dilantin and do medicne change with 5 days in the hospital, and we said no thank you.
