I have catamenial epilepsy/seizures and my doctor had me on Diamox to take about 4 or 5 days before my cycle and during. I took it for about 8 yrs or so. It helped greatly.
Here's some info. about it.

I am not on it now due to other reasons. I now just change the dose of 2 of the meds. that I'm on during my time. But the diamox worked great.
Take care

Women can have an increase in seizures just prior or during their cycle due to hormonal changes. This is called catamenial epilepsy. In fact, I have only ever had seizures / auras during my pre-menstrual time.

If your doctor is not aware of this type of epilepsy or is not able to take the time to discuss it with you, then you need a new doctor. You should be seeing a neurologist -- not just a primary care doctor. Preferably you should find a neurologist who specializes in seizures -- this type of doctor is called an epileptologist.
I take Keppra and Lamictal 2x daily -- consistently all month long. It is my understanding that keeping the medication at an even level overall is the best approach -- instead of upping the dose around your menstrual times.
Let me know if you have more questions about this.

P.S. Because many of the brain chemicals that affect epilepsy also affect mood disorders, it is common for people with epilepsy to also be treated for depression. I take meds for both -- Lamictal & Keppra for epi and Paxil for depression. However, your doctor should not be using anti-depressants to treat your seizures -- he's off-track if he is trying to do that. Talk to him and ask him to explain why he wants to do it that way.

Is he just blaming the increased seizures on what he thinks is an emotional/mental cause (and I don't) or does Xanax really help with seizures not caused by stress or things like that?
