Reports and photos cuertosy of Prince.org (thanks 2 Serge and all the others posting there)...j!

Prince arriving in Montreux!!

According to a friend working at the Festival Prince is arriving today Thursday in Montreux. He is getting a whole floor at the Montreux Palace opposite the Festival hall. He is travelling with an army of bodyguards and the security at Montreux is going to be very tight. People with ALL ACCESS passes won't be allowed backstage, new PRINCE passes will be needed for Saturday. According to the Montreux's organisers, these two shows will be Prince's only shows in 2009 (which I find hard to believe....)

1st "review" translated from French:

MONTREUX, Switzerland - The American artist Prince closed Saturday apotheosis in the 43rd edition of the Montreux Jazz Festival with two concerts on the last evening of the event.

Wearing a red suit, the American artist ignited with his voice and his guitar riffs from the chamber of the Stravinski Auditorium in the city of Montreux (west) on the shores of Lake Geneva.

Approximately 4400 people sang and danced to the rhythms of lesser known songs like "Empty room" or "In a large room with no light, but also the classics of the artist.

A record crowd was expected for two performances of the musician, whose first concerts in the early 1970s. More than 7,000 tickets had been sold in less than eight minutes when placed on sale on July 4, according to organizers.

Despite prices ranging from 195 Swiss francs (128 euros) for a standing place, and 480 Swiss francs for a seat, and a limit of two tickets per person, tickets were sold in 7 minutes and 58 seconds.

The economic crisis has not cooled the ardor of music fans, the organizers have booked about 230,000 people for two days of concerts, some 10,000 visitors over the previous year.

This 43rd edition has been "crowned with success, both artistic and popular, the organizers have estimated in a statement, adding that" the communion between the public and artists (had) marked the spirits. "

Paying about 95 concerts were scheduled in two weeks of the festival, with artists including Steely Dan, Herbie Hancock, Black Eyed Peas, Alice Cooper, Steve Winwood, Monty Alexander, Lily Allen, Wyclef Jean, Marianne Faithfull, John Fogerty, Grace Jones and BB King.

Another review translated from french to english

My name is Prince." An announcement is obvious. For the Royal ranting and noble gesture, it will take a few minutes. 19h35 pétante because it is the humble and clear voice of Prince sounds of nowhere in a weightless Stravinsky, of course without being crowded completed. The stage is bare but livens up as the voice announces that the musicians, Renato Neto on keyboards, John Blackwell on drums and Rhonda Smith on bass. Finally, those who had long traded in his name against a symbol anonymous lovers returned to its full coat and, still in limbo, is presented in Montreux. "My name if Prince", so.

Monster ovation. The singer from Minneapolis on the left side of the stage, carnivorous smile, eye contact and canaille earrings diamonds. He wears a tan shirt, shoes soles vermillion high (not high heels as in its first passage in 2007) and a Fender Stratocaster guitar a bright red. The blood flow there? Two years ago, Prince was bubbled through a long river jazzy to stir champagne and reef safe. Quartet, the option muscular rock will it be the prerogative of the Prince in 2009 for his only two concerts of the year?

Heavily, heavily, the band launches When I Lay My Hands on You, appeared on a curiosity reserved for internet delivery in 2000. Tempo square gémissante guitar, bass threatening, round and groovy ... The introduction shows the fangs. Little Red Corvette that follows is for more of his kind sentiments, Prince snapping shots of salacious language between two orgasmic moans. And he polish his guitar, fucker! From top to bottom with a couple of good stiff hip, history that nobody is spared by his strident outpourings. Fabulous performer who manages to make the sound less docile of Stravinsky, if true it often forgets to roar. Technically impeccable, precise and nimble in its transitions, the concert quickly found its climax on a throbbing bass line, evil, a pretext for Prince to a flood of feedback. He kneads I Love U, but I Do not Trust U Anymore from the album Rave un2 the Joy Fantastic, every musician there from his solo on the sauce to a boil and then pouring on the delicacy with Straver.

When the Prince loose bridle his musicians, they spin faster to these demonstrative arduous land bordering jazz bourgeois. Himself must make an effort to stay focused on his songs, "how simple" while the appeal of the exhibition mégalo titille so easily. This concert navigates between both, fortunately with each passing bling-bling ruades two animals. Vanity (deserved), which makes it refuse any photographer to capture his performance, Prince was unfortunately injured in his choice of songs, as if he considered unworthy of his status back on the tubes of his youth. Same people, however, that people want to hear.

After an hour's concert, a first reminder was the return for a long slow two synthesizers (arrival on stage of Morris Hayes) that crosses with many vibrato in his voice of soprano. Duo almost surpise both fled the concert will be hits, it establishes between them and Pearl and Diamonds Nothing Compares 2U and closes 90 minutes of flawless performance, without too many big surprises either. In the room with the lights returned, the public does not want to go - with tickets ranging between 190 and 420 francs, hoping for a much longer show. The second is scheduled for midnight, Prince left the Palais des congrès. The empty stage, Claude Nobs soothes disgruntled recalling that "when it's short, it is sometimes better." It does not necessarily quiet the mind to think about but it gives while the patient in the queue, interminable, toilets of Miles Davis Hall.'
