[epilepsy] Re: unbelieveable pharmacy mistake

Hi all,

I just wanted to share that having too much lamictal in one's
bloodstream can cause seizures and other serious side effects. In
fact, the two most severe injuries that Megan has ever had were due
to her lamictal levels being over the theraputic range. In her case,
both times it was due to not taking birth control pills. That's
because the birth control pills inhibit the uptake of lamictal into
the bloodstream, so when she wasn't taking them, her lamictal levels
spiked. The first time this happened, she had doubled and blurry
vision, felt nauseated and dizzy, and ultimately passed out, falling
on concrete face first. She was lucky she only ended up with two
black eyes and severe abrasions and bruising on her face. The second
time, she was sitting, had the same symptoms but as she fell to the
floor she hit a table and broke off parts of both her front teeth!

Moral of the story is, be very careful with dosing of lamictal, and
if you change ANY other meds, talk to your neuro to make sure that it
won't cause changes in your lamictal uptake.

Take care,
Tammy
