Hello- I am a 58yr young male- My seizures started when I was 13 as a result of a mosquito bite. I was left with encephalitis- today we call it west nile disease. I have mostly petit mal seizures- I have had grand mal- I have in 45 years probably had them all at one time or another. I probably tried every drug out there to control my seizures- This wasn't working. When I was 49 I had surgery. I had a right temporal lamectomy. They opened my skull once to map my brain- find out what controlled what- vision hearing and so on. They also looked for the area which triggered seizures and was damaged when my brain swelled to the skull walls and I went into a long coma. They then did the surgery and hopefully removed the damaged area which caused seizures. They opened my head up again to correct the staph infection they left. Needless to say they were not as frequent. I went for several years without and (so I thought- I am not aware sometimes I have had one.0 I went ahead and got my drivers license- I was a FOOL- my seizures and less frequent but I still have them- recently I totalled my honda Accord - please do NOT get a license- they lessen however mine are still there.
