Most people in the US, even those without any disabling problem, feel
isolated and lonely. It is partly a product of living in big cities
that can be very impersonal. I could say more about this, but my real
point is that almost everyone could use more friends. Reach out to
people, and you may be surprised at how how many people would like a
new friend.
Also, I think that as we get older, we have more life experience and
have been exposed to more health issues, etc. People who are a little
older seem to be more accepting than say teens, who are under a lot
of pressure to "fit in." I'm not talking ancient, just people with a
little bit of life experience under their belts. I know that I had no
idea how to deal with people who were going through cancer until my
husband had it. Now I am much more comfortable in knowing what to
say, what that person wants and needs from me, etc. So even if you
have been rejected in the past, try reaching out to people now.
Hopefully, people mature:)
Take care,
Tammy
