[epilepsy] Help please

Hi, my name is Rhonda.  I have a younger brother (Ray) that is 40 who has epilepsy.  When he experiences seizures he gets real quiet and kinda zones out for awhile.  It only lasts about 10 to 20 seconds and than he is back to his normal self.  Sometimes he gets really sleepy and naps but usually he is fine.

The problem is my parents don't really understand what is going on with him.  They believe that when he has a seizure it is because he has been too active and they keep him in the house.  My brother is emotionally and mentally slower than the average 40yr old so he is not able to support himself by himself, he still lives with my parents (to my displeasure) and can not drive so every place he goes he rides his bike.  He does however hold a job.  He is on medication and has been since he was about 16.  He has had several med changes over the years and has recently been put on Lamictal but it seems he is still have small seizures.

I am getting really frustrated with this situation, I don't live in the same state as my family so when I do come home it is pretty upsetting.  I don't know if I am just venting or what but I need to let my parents know that even tho my brother has epilepsy he can lead a normal life.
