I take Lamictal and have insomnia too. I've had epilepsy for 40 years too. Nothing ever worked for me either.
The drugs that didn't give me insomnia made me so tired I couldn't do anything and they didn't control my
seizures as well. My drs recomended surgery. I had it in Feb. and haven't had any seizures and the side effects
of the medacine isn't as bad. I have some speech and memory problems and also have a little bit of
double vision but I'm getting better slowly. If I don't have seizures I can start to get off meds in two
years. I now have a hope of being free af meds and their side effects.
Also my drs wanted me to have surgery so I wouldn't get brain damage from seizures.
Headaches from seizures were also one of my causes of insomnia.
I hopes this helps.

Subject: [epilepsy] Your experience concerning Lamictal...
I am on Lamictal 400mg daily and have been for years, A change of
drug is coming, but I do not know what kind, due to bad insomnia.
If you might have changed from this too, what did you change to?
Since I have been taking different drugs for over about 40 years, I
almost think it might be worth it going back to easier drugs like
dilantin or phenobarbital. I still get at least 3 seizures a month,
when asleep, and often they repeat at same time.
Please let me know what you might have experienced with the Lamictal
or what you have found worth changing too.
Thanks for you time.
Doris
