Tammy,
I couldn't help but notice that you live in Hartland, WI. We live in Port Washington, WI, and my son (newly diagnosed with EP), goes to Children's Hospital for his neurologist. It is great to have such a wonderful support group here, and to know that others have been equally impressed with the staff at Children's and Froedtert Hospitals!
Thank you,
Susan

Molly, where are you in WI? I live in Hartland and Megan went to
Children's Hospital until she was 17 and is currently being seeing at
the Medical College of Wisconsin/Froedtert Hospital. They have what
is said to be the best epilepsy clinic in SE WI, if not the whole
state. Megan was seeing a Dr. Mushtaq, but her doctor also recently
moved to Chicago, so Megan will be seeing a new doctor at the clinic.
Well, new to her. We haven't had an appointment with him yet. Dr.
Mushtaq specialized in women's epilepsy. Although she knew her stuff,
I ended up being disappointed with Megan's treatment under her, as
Megan has gone from having one or two seizures a year to two or three
a month! The doctor was concerned with a woman of childbearing years
being on Depakote, as it can cause reproductive problems for women
and also a higher incidence of birth defects than some other epi
drugs, including a ten point lowering of IQ in offspring. While I can
appreciate how important those things are (even to Megan, though
sometime down the road), I am not at all happy with the outcome in
terms of increased seizure activity. I am keeping an open mind about
this new doctor until we at least have met with him, but we are not
satisfied with the current state of affairs.
I can't recall who it is in your family who has epilepsy. Is it you
or one of your children? Where do you go to see your neurologist?
Take care,
Tammy
