Re: [epilepsy] Facing epilepsy from 15 years

I agree. Epilepsy is a condition of the Brain.  I didn't ever let the thought of having seizures hold me back.  I was involved in several sports, (gymnastics, cheerleader, volleyball, fast pitch softball, track, cross country and Fitness Competition).  I also graduated from College where I was accussed of being a drug addict and put is a straight jacket while having a seizure in class.  It was embarrasing having to face the students at College, but I wasn't about to let the ignorance of another bring shame down on me.  I graduated with a BS Degree is Business and am working for a GC,Property Management and Fitness Clubs in the Accounting Dept.  One thing I always asked of others was to not feel sorry for me but to treat me the same as they would want to be treated.  I have worked hard to get where I am at and I continue to strive everyday to learn more and be a positive role model for my daughter.

Im sorry if this may offend someone I really dont mean too but, I can't just let this go and not say anything. Epilepsy is not a disease epilepsy is a condition with the brain. People join this group to learn from other experiences and for support from people or caregivers that have been there. Joining this group doesn't mean there is a cure for epilepsy. My daughter is 6 and half years old she has epilepsy she has had it since she was 2 weeks old there isn't a cure for her epilepsy yes hse is on medicine also but even at her young age she doesn't let it stop her from living her life the way she wants to. She has decided to make something of it. She sends out purple ribbons, she tells people about her epilepsy, how others can support people with epilepsy, and that everyone is differant. She has a saying "they just dont understand". If you have epilepsy it's not the end of the world you have it do why not do something about it educate people about it that
might be what God wants you to do with your past experience maybe YOU could help someone else out there that feels like they are alone. If you have epilepsy you are not alone there is others out there thats what this group is about. And yes maybe through someone else's past experiences there can be something you can mention to your doctors to try to get ahold fo your seizures and maybe they will stop. But, there is always a chance that you could still have a seizure at any given time even if you go years with out one. You have epilepsy make something of it try to help someone else out and in the same it might help you out too!
Once again Im very sorry if I offended anyone that was not my intentions but my daughters saying stands true "They just dont understand"!  I am an ambassador for epilepsy and you have to educate not only yourselves but the public as well. I love this group it has helped me a lot.
