Hi Aamir,
Welcome to the group. I'm 51 years young and have had epilepsy since 1975, so that's 33 years with epilepsy for me, so far! As of today, there is no cure for epilepsy but hopefully, one day in time one might be created! Most of my years with epilepsy, my seizures weren't under control. I tried the so many different meds. over the years. No mix worked for me like 25% of the 50,000,000 people who have epilepsy worldwide.
Have you tried allot of the so many different meds. available for epilepsy? Year by year more and more research on epilepsy is being done. More and more medications are becoming approved. Whats even more amazing is the quantity of research on new meds. that are in the stages of development. Each year that much more research is being done. We all hope that one day a cure can be created, but we aren't there yet.
Just over 2 1/2 years ago I had surgery hoping to stop my seizures. I had a left temporal lobectomy in my amygdala. To this day I'm still seizure free (giant smile)! Each day I hope it lasts another day, so far so good (big smile)! But its not a cure, doesn't mean seizures can't come back which can happen. Surgery is so new to show long term statistics on success. Also where the activity is in the brain varies person to person so much. That each surgery is different, so long term results are hard to compare. So thats growing more and more. There is a surgery called VNS which won't stop seizures, but can reduce the quantity of seizures a person has.
You mentioned your Dr. Is your general Dr. helping you with your epilepsy. Or are you seeing a neurologist would understand epilepsy more. Here in the United States there are allot fewer Drs. who specialize by having only patients with epilepsy. The are called epileptologists.
Stick with the group, here you have friends to talk with about how everyday life affects us all with epilepsy. Keep in touch, keep a smile on your face!
Steve
